Airways - Making your world possible

Our people & leaders

Our people

Airways employs around 800 staff nationally in highly skilled and technical roles.

Our people work across the Christchurch Radar Centre, Auckland Oceanic Centre, 19 control towers, and corporate offices in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Airways’ biggest base is in Christchurch.

The majority of our people are employed in operational roles, as air traffic controllers or flight information officers, or in technical and engineering positions supporting the design, implementation and maintenance of the infrastructure that underpins our air traffic management network. The remainder work in corporate roles supporting our operational business units and three subsidiary commercial business units.

Creating a work environment and culture where all differences are valued, respected and leveraged is a priority for Airways. We recognise the value of a diverse workforce and are committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive and collaborative workplace culture. Our focus is firmly on enabling Airways people to be the best they can be at work with Diversity & Inclusion, and Flexible Working policies to support this.

A significant percent of Airways people are on collective employment agreements and we are committed to working collaboratively with our people’s representative unions (The New Zealand Air Line Pilots' Association (NZALPA), and the Aviation and Marine Engineers Association (AMEA).
